Abstract
A method for refractive: index adaptive gridding in finite-difference time-domain methods is presented. This method allows highly efficient simulation of structures consisting homogeneous regions with large dif ferences in refractive index and planar interfaces which are frequentl y encountered when modeling photodetectors, sensors, etc., on which li ght impinges from vacuum.
