The crystallization processes of amorphous Zr75Cu27Al8 alloy, both fro
m amorphous state and supercooled liquid, were investigated. It was ma
inly controlled by the growth of pre-existing quenched-in three-dimens
ional nuclei with a constant growth rate. It was observed that the act
ivation energy is much higher in the transition from amorphous state t
han that from supercooled liquid. The crystallization product from bot
h initial states consists of the b.c.t. Zr2Cu phase and an unknown pha
se with f.c.c. structure. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights re
