Abstract
Results are presented of a systematic survey of Delta I=4 bifurcation in 19 superdeformed bands in A similar to 150 Eu and Gd nuclei. The ma jority of bands show no sign of this regular oscillation in energy lev els. The statistical significance of the few examples that exhibit the effect is examined. [S0556-2813(98)51011-4].
