Total atmospheric fallout of Pb, Cd, Hg, Be, and Cu was determined in
3 quarters of Karlsruhe using the standard Bergerhoff method. Depositi
on of the metals was evaluated and presented to study their spatial an
d temporal changes. Average deposition of the metals in winter 1992/93
-autumn 1993 period amounted to: Pb 11, Cd 0.29, Hg 0.045, Be 0.055, a
nd Cu 9.6 mu g d(-1) m(-2). The maximum spatial variations were found
between 230% and 510%. The maximum temporal variations were between 17
0% and 1700% (1700% for Hg). The maximum spatial variations for all me
tals, but Hg, were close to the corresponding maximum temporal variati
ons. Pb and Cd depositions, at all 3 sampling sites, were found to be
more than 10 times lower than the corresponding German control regulat
ions. The deposition rates for other metals were close to those for th
e background levels.
