Abstract
The Royal Army Medical Corps came into existence on 1st July 1898, in response to dissatisfaction with the organisation and efficiency of th e Army Medical Service. Although much of the pressure for change came from officers within the service, a significant factor was the campaig n conducted by a civilian, Alexander Ogston, Professor of Surgery at A berdeen.
