Jl. Patterson, EXPRESSIVE VOCABULARY DEVELOPMENT AND WORD COMBINATIONS OF SPANISH-ENGLISH BILINGUAL TODDLERS, American journal of speech-language pathology, 7(4), 1998, pp. 46-56
Parent reports of their children's expressive vocabulary and word comb
inations were obtained for 102 21- to 27-month-old children who were e
xposed to Spanish and English on a regular basis. The data were collec
ted using an adapted version of the Language Development Survey (Resco
rla, 1989). Expressive vocabulary size increased with age, and the gir
ls' mean vocabulary was larger than the boys' mean vocabulary. Means,
medians, and ranges of expressive vocabulary size and percentage of ch
ildren combining words are presented, and potential screening guidelin
es are discussed.
