E. Gautier et al., GROWTH DISTURBANCES AFTER INJURIES OF THE PROXIMAL TIBIAL EPIPHYSIS, Archives of orthopaedic and trauma surgery, 118(1-2), 1998, pp. 37-41
Proximal tibial epiphyseal fractures are very rare. Partial growth arr
est of the physis can cause important axial malalignment in the fronta
l or the sagittal plane or both, with subsequent shift of the weight-b
earing axis onto the injured compartment of the knee joint. To detect
the exact extent of the deformity, comparative radiographs of the cont
ralateral side in two planes using long films as well as standing whol
e leg orthoradiographs are desirable. Accurate measurements in our ser
ies of six patients revealed deformities in two, which required second
ary surgical correction.
