Abstract
A survey of methods for dissolution of plutonium dioxide, published fr om the early 1950s until the late 1970s, is presented. A particular at tention is paid to dissolution in mineral acids and their mixtures. Ph ysical and physicochemical properties of plutonium dioxide and the sta te of its surface and of the oxide-electrolyte solution interface, inf luencing the dissolution kinetics, are discussed.
