The hydrogenation of 5,5-dimethyl-2-phenyl-[1,3]dioxane to 3-benzyloxy
-2,2-dimethyl-propan-1-ol has been investigated within the temperature
range from 150 degrees C to 220 degrees C over copper-loaded catalyst
s. Under elevated pressure in a continuous flow reactor, good results
have been obtained using the catalyst system Cu/H-[B]-silicalite-1. Th
e results have been compared to those obtained over two catalyst syste
ms known in the literature, i.e. nickel oxide on silica and copper chr
omite.
