Children and adults with language disorders may be receiving therapy s
ervices in a variety of locations, some of which are not traditionally
or frequently involved in research. lis manuscript examines the issue
s that language researchers may face when planning and executing resea
rch in such facilities with individuals who have language disorders. i
nformed consent procedures, administrative approvals, staff education,
and enlisting the help of staff speech-language pathologists are addr
essed. Research can be successfully conducted in facilities that do no
t traditionally participate in research if the investigator takes time
to build the needed relationships, anticipates any problems, and foll
ows the institution's procedures.
