The conception of different performance criteria in evaluating and jud
ging group performance are presented. Differences are made between sub
jective performance criteria, which summarize the experience oriented
effect bf the group situation on the members, and objective performanc
e criteria, which evaluate reaching the goal by processing items. Usin
g this meta-classification some scholarly discussions can be shown to
be based on incompatible judgements. Ways can be shown of developing e
fficient group processes which are related to a uniform group backgrou
nd.
