Abstract
The light induced isomerization and dimerization of two 2-aryl-3-furyl acrylonitriles 3a, b in iso-propyl acetate solution have been investig ated. Both the ''virtual'' and the ''real'' decomposition of these sub stances have been determined by UV-spectroscopy and gas chromatography (GLC). The major reaction products (cyclobutanes 4a, b) have been iso lated and their structures confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis.
