The 16-electron ruthenium complex [(Ph2PNMeNMePPh2)(2)RuCl]BF4 (2) has
been prepared by chloride abstraction from (Ph2PNMeNMePPh2)(2)RuCl2 (
1) with AgBF4. The enthalpies of reaction of [(Ph2PNMeNMePPh2)(2)RuCl]
BF4 (2) with H-2, CH3CN and CO, leading to the formation of complexes
[(Ph2PNMeNMePPh2)(2)RuCl(L)]BF4 (L = H-2 (3); CH3CN, (4); CO (5)), hav
e been measured by anaerobic calorimetry in CH2Cl2 at 30 degrees C. Th
ese reactions are rapid and quantitative. The relative order of stabil
ity established for these complexes is 5 > 4 > 3. Reactivity and therm
ochemistry of one alkyne, (HCCBu)-Bu-n, has also been investigated. (C
