Heterogeneous photocatalysis has large potentials in detoxification of
waste water. Due to the heterogeneity of the medium, there arise some
mechanistical and technical problems. We have studied the influence o
f the amount of catalyst, the concentration of oxy gen and the redox p
roperties of different substituted phenols on the degradation rate. Th
e optimum amount of the catalyst TiO2 is 2 g/l. Air can be used as the
oxygen source without decrease of reaction rates. The reactivity of s
elected phenols can be described by two different Hammett-relations.
