Abstract
If the fields incident on a buried body of revolution art polarized ve rtically or horizontally (relative to the ground), the backscattered f ields are exclusively copolarized (i.e., there are no cross-polarized backscattered fields). After substantiating this theoretically, measur ed ultrawideband (UWB) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data are used fo r corroboration, considering real, buried landmines that approximate b odies of revolution.
