A Conceptual Model of Strategy Formation

A theoretical model is developed in which it is hypothesized that the contingent nature of strategy rests on the relative level of organizational slack present. It is suggested that organizational slack dictates necessary goodness of fit between structure and the interactive effects of contextual factors which, in turn, determine the nature of the relationship between strategy and structure.
