We investigate analytically the large dimensional behavior of the Kard
ar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) dynamics of surface growth using a recently prop
osed nonperturbative renormalization for self-affine surface dynamics.
Within this framework, we show that the roughness exponent cu decays
not faster than alpha similar to 1/d for large d. This implies the abs
ence of a finite upper critical dimension. [S1063-651X(98)50611-3].
