Abstract
Cognitive and behaviorist theories of work behavior typically have been discussed separately and conceptualized as sharing little, if anything, in common. While this may not be a particularly disconcerting state of affairs for the theoretician, it can be for the practitioner who is attempting to bring behavioral science research and theory to bear on organizational problems. Our purpose here is to provide an integration of divergent perspectives and to develop a supportive rationale and legitimization for organizational behavior modification (OB Mod). In the process, by pointing out new avenues for organizational research, we intend to provide the practitioner with practical tools that can be applied in organizational settings.
