Abstract
Factors likely to influence promotion decisions include the decision process, attributes of the decision maker(s), the organization's promotion policies and support systems, and other elements of the organizational and environmental context. The decision process includes strategy formulation, candidate search, information handling, evaluation and choice, and planning for implementation. We present 16 propositions regarding promotion decisions that are suitable for empirical testing.
