Abstract
Belief in the ideal of value-free organizational science still is widely expressed in the discipline. However, values are entailed in general models of organization; such models emphasize certain problems, minimize others, and so have implications for how organizations should be structured and managed. This paper illustrates how ethical criteria can be used to evaluate these implications and, in turn, the overall acceptability of alternative social models.
