Human immunodeficiency virus seroprevalence in individuals with severe
mental illness has been reported to be significantly higher than that
in the general population, Education and prevention programmes based
on cognitive behavioural theories have recently been shown to be effec
tive in reducing human immunodeficiency virus risk behaviours in this
