Abstract
The concept of ecosystem management has recently been investigated by Carter et al. (1997. Can. J. For. Res. 27: 1302-1310) from a harvest s cheduling perspective incorporating adjacency, exclusion periods, and flow restrictions. This is a likely contribution to the debates questi oning the usefulness and capabilities of these constraints in forest m anagement models. This research note discusses an error in the mathema tical model formulation presented in Carter et al. (1997). Such an err or may impact the findings presented and perhaps alter conclusions. Th is is an increasingly important issue, given the ease of planning prob lem formulation and application using current optimization software pa ckages.
