Abstract
The plasma levels of lipoperoxides, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), r educed glutathione (GSH), beta carotene, vitamin A, E, some plasma bio chemical and blood haematological parameters were investigated in 40 w omen with habitual abortion (HA) and controls. The levels of GSH, vita min A, E and beta carotene were significantly lower in women with HA t han in controls. However, the plasma levels of lipid peroxidation, alk aline phosphatase (ALP), glucose and blood haemoglobin were significan tly higher in HA than in controls. In addition, plasma levels of GSH-P x, AST, ALT, total bilirubin, total protein, albumin, sodium, potassiu m, calcium and number of white blood cells, red blood cells, platelet and values of packet cell volume showed no significant differences bet ween HA and controls. According to the results of this study, we obser ved that the levels of lipid peroxidation were increased and plasma le vels of vitamin A, E and beta carotene were decreased in HA. The decre ase of those antioxidants may play a significant role in women with ha bitual abortion. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
