Abstract
A new 1-D inorganic chain polymer [H(2)en](4)[Hen](2)[V-6-B22O53H8].5H (2)O, consisting of [V6B20O50H6] cluster subunits linked together thro ugh diborate bridges, has been synthesised with high yield and purity by a molten boric acid 'flux' method in which V2O5, en and H3BO3 (1 : 6 : 25)were heated together at 180 degrees C for 3 days; the clusters have a central band of six square-pyramidal V-IV=O vanadyl groups, whi ch are capped top and bottom by two raft-like polyborate ligands of fo rmula [B10O16H3].
