Abstract
Addition of water to the Lewis acid B(C6F5)(3) gives the neutral compo und H2O . B(C6F5)(3). 2H(2)O while the reaction between B(C6F6)(3) and KOH-H2O in the presence of dibenzo-18-crown-6 gives [K(dibenzo-18-cro wn-6)](+)-[HOB(C6F5)(3)](-) which crystallises together with the adduc t H2O . B(C6F5)(3); the new binuclear berate anion [(F5C6)(3)B(mu-OH)B (C6F5)3](-) is formed as a salt with the cation [Ir(eta(5)-C5H5)(C8H12 )H](+) by addition of H2O to B(C6F5)(3) in the presence of [Ir(eta(5)- C5H5)(C8H12)].
