Abstract
The most important values, objectives, and concerns of individuals involved in practicing accounting are shared by those involved in accounting education. There are 5 areas of concern common to both groups: 1. improving accounting's contribution to society, 2. broadening the educational foundation for those contemplating a career in accountancy, 3. putting the certified public accountant (CPA) examination in its proper perspective by severing the link between the short-term objective of passing the CPA examination and a college preparation for a career in accountancy, 4. using the countless accounting standards as illustrations of practical applications of fundamental concepts in accounting, and 5. sharpening the awareness and responsiveness of accounting teachers and practitioners to ethical issues. The continued synergistic cooperation and mutual understanding of both groups will lead to progress in addressing these concerns
