The introduction of the Education Reform Act in 1988 and the introduct
ion of the National Curriculum in 1991 have done much to change the fa
ce of geographical education in schools and further and higher educati
on institutions in the last decade This article looks at the unique co
ntribution which primary geography makes to general education, the con
tribution tbe Geographical Association makes nationally, to the subjec
t, and finally it offers ct challenge to specialists and generations t
o ensure that they communicate their own enthusiasm for the subject to
their students.
