Abstract
Packaging steel has been recycled at a 47 % rate in France (in 1997), due to the organization of recycling schemes that start at the municip al waste treatment plants and at drums and cans recycler works. The sc rap is used in EAF as well as in BOF shops, where it complies with the same level of quality as conventional obsolete scrap. It is shown her e that, under the French conditions, tinplate recycling is sustainable .
