V. Capek et J. Bok, ISOTHERMAL MAXWELL DEMON - NUMERICAL RESULTS IN A SIMPLIFIED MODEL, Journal of physics. A, mathematical and general (Print), 31(44), 1998, pp. 8745-8756
A recently suggested simple model of an open microscopic system intera
cting with a bath and behaving like an isothermal Maxwell daemon is si
mplified and treated numerically. Results obtained confirm expectation
s that the system can, at the cost of thermal energy of the bath, spon
taneously and in a cyclic process, pump particles from a particle rese
rvoir to states with even higher energy. This contradicts the usual op
inion based on the second law of macroscopic thermodynamics. For this
effect, the interaction with the bath cannot be treated as weak. The r
ole of dephasing owing to this interaction is illustrated.
