Exact solutions are obtained for certain problems of the unsteady flow
of an incompressible viscous fluid in the case of velocity distributi
ons for which the Navier-Stokes equations become linear. Unlike previo
us solutions of these problems, more general boundary conditions and f
low non-uniformity are taken into account. The smoothing of a velocity
discontinuity and vorticity propagation in three dimensions is consid
ered as well as fluid how over an infinite plate, in an infinite two-s
