Abstract
Examination of non-phytotoxic extracts associated with the in vitro pr oduction of thaxtomin A by various Streptomyces scabies isolates consi stently yielded a nitroaromatic compound that was characterized by spe ctral and synthetic means as 5-nitroanthranilic acid (2-amino-5-nitrob enzoic acid).:Investigations examining its possible role in the biosyn thesis of thaxtomin A were inconclusive.
