NORLIMONOIDS FROM SEEDS OF TOONA-CILIATA

Further examination of the seeds of Toona ciliata led to the isolation of two new norlimonoids which were identified on the basis of spectro scopic analysis as 5 alpha,6 beta,8 alpha-trihydroxy-28-norisotoonafol in and 5 alpha,6 beta,8 alpha,12 alpha-tetrahydroxy-28-norisotoonafoli n. In addition, the known limonoids cedrelone and toonacilin and the s terols sitosterol, stigmasterol, campesterol and 3 beta-O-beta-D-gluco pyranosylsitosterol were also isolated and characterised. These result s show that Toona has a less pronounced relationship to the Swietenioi deae. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
