Abstract
This paper describes an on-line procedure for measuring the four dampi ng coefficients of oil film journal bearing from imposed dynamic orbit s. The microcomputer is used to control dynamic forces, detect the ''f igure of eight'' shaped orbit, find the ''cross-over'' point therein a nd, finally, compute the four damping coefficients. The presented meth od greatly reduces the workload involved in the experiment and measuri ng of damping coefficients. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
