We present an 18-year-old man with painless rectal bleeding, hematuria
and diffuse cavernous hemangioma of the rectum and sigmoid colon. Thi
rty units of blood were transfused during the interval preceding defin
itive surgery. Low anterior resection and partial cystectomy were perf
ormed. During the postoperative period no rectal bleeding occurred, bu
t he died of massive intracerebral bleeding 10 months after the operat
ion.
