Abstract
The quantum numbers of linked Z-string configurations due to fermion z ero modes is discussed. Treating the weak mixing angle (theta(w)) as a free parameter, we find that the energy is minimized when sin(2) thet a(w)=3/8 and that the quantum numbers take on very simple values at th is value of sin(2) theta(w). In particular, the baryon number is N-F/2 , exactly as for the sphaleron. [S0556-2821(98)04224-6].
