Ac. Alrikabi et al., FINE-NEEDLE ASPIRATION CYTOLOGY OF PRIMARY KAPOSIS-SARCOMA OF LYMPH-NODES IN AN IMMUNOCOMPETENT MAN, Diagnostic cytopathology, 19(6), 1998, pp. 451-454
This case report describes the fine-needle aspiration (FNA) findings o
f primary lymphadenopathic Kaposi's sat-coma (KS) in a 44-year-old Afr
ican heterosexual male who is immunocompetent and has no clinical or s
erological evidence of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) o
r the endemic form of KS. The cytological findings emphasize the role
of FNA in the diagnosis of KS and draw the attention to the fact that
a diagnosis of KS in an African man is not synonymous with the diagnos
is of AIDS or endemic/African KS. A description of other spindle cell
intranodal lesions which may mimick KS is given with a discussion of t
he differential diagnoses that should be considered in such cases by t
he cytopathologist. (C) 1998 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
