We present the results of ROSAT/ASCA observations of the bright southe
rn radio source MRC 0625 - 536. The majority of the X-ray emission ori
ginates from the surrounding cluster Abell 3391. The best fit temperat
ure for the cluster gas is kT = 5.8(-0.3)(+0.4) keV with an abundance
of 0.36+/-0.10 times the solar value. We determined the radial mass pr
ofile and extrapolating the data out to 3 Mpc, and we find that the to
tal mass of the cluster is (0.4 - 1.6) x 10(15) M. Up to about 10% of
the X-ray flux could originate from the central dumbbell galaxy. A com
parison of the X-ray contours with the complex 13cm radio structure re
veals strong interactions between the radio jets and the surrounding m
atter. MRC 0625-536 is thus another object where the interaction betwe
en the otherwise invisible matter of the cluster and the activity of t
he central radio galaxy can be studied by combining data from the radi
o and the X-ray regimes.
