The information-theoretical properties of a sequence of quantum nondem
olition measurements are investigated in detail. It is found that the
information gain by quantum nondemolition measurement is equal to the
entropy decrease of the measured physical system. Under certain condit
ions, the complete information about a discrete observable of the phys
ical system can be obtained when a sufficiently large number of measur
ements are performed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
