Abstract
The authors have fabricated vertical cavity lasers with tapered oxide apertures. The taper of the oxide aperture creates a more lens-like el ement within the cavity which, as predicted from theory, almost elimin ates scattering losses in small devices with a 2 mu m diameter opening .
