The transmission of a 4 x 10Gbit/s OTDM data sequence is demonstrated
for the first time over 406km of non-dispersion shifted fibre. Four wa
ve mixing in a 2mm long semiconductor optical amplifier was used to co
mpensate for dispersion via midspan spectral inversion. A record 45dB
signal-to-noise ratio in a 0.1 nm bandwidth was obtained for the spect
rally inverted signal.
