Abstract
In this paper the range of optimum lens shapes for theoretical pseudop hakic eyes with high myopia is given as a function of intraocular lens (IOL) power using physiological and optical design criteria. Wave-fro nt aberration in the plane of the exit pupil in pseudophakic eyes with high myopia is studied. Taking into account the defocus and spherical aberration coefficients, we have used a coefficient which gives us in formation about the image quality of optical systems. Considering an I OL diameter of 5.5 mm and excluding concave surfaces facing the retina , this coefficient and the anterior sagitta of each IOL are calculated as functions of the bending factor. Bending factors that give an ante rior sagitta of the IOL lower than 0.5 mm and a coefficient lower than the coefficient of an emmetropic phakic theoretical eye are chosen as the optimum shapes of the IOL for each power.
