This article introduce Russian readers to the Edwards Personal Prefere
nce Schedule (EPPS), one of the most used personality assessment inven
tories. Theoretical grounds underlying scales of the Schedule and a pr
inciple of its construction are presented. A review of Western studies
(1959-1997) applying the EPPS in various vocational and ethno-cultura
l groups as well as in populations differing in psychiatric and psycho
social status is made. The first results of the EPPS application on Ru
ssian samples are briefly described.
