It has been found that N-(beta-carboxylpropionyl)luminol (CPL) gives e
lectrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) at a platinum electrode in KCl
-NaHCO3-Na2CO3 solution when a triangular pulse voltage is applied, an
d the presence of 5.8 x 10(-4) mol l(-1) H2O2 enhances this ECL. The o
ptimum chemical conditions and electrochemical parameters for this ECL
system have been investigated in detail, Under the optimum conditions
the linear response range of CPL is 1.0 x 10(-11)-3.6 x 10(-7) mol l(
-1), the detection limit was 1.0 x 10(-11) mol l(-1), and the relative
standard deviation for 5 x 10(-9) mol l(-1) CPL was 5.8%. The mechani
sm for this ECL system is discussed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. Al
