Abstract
Several new ortho bridged biphenyls mimicking the structure of (-)-rha zinilam were synthesized and evaluated as cytotoxic compounds and as i nhibitors of microtubules disassembly. These included azadibenzo[a,c]c yclononene derivatives having an ester, urea or carbamate function pre sent in the 9-membered ring linking the two phenyl moieties. The compo und bearing a carbamate function instead of the amide group of rhazini lam interacts better with tubulin than (-) rhazinilam, (C) 1998 Elsevi er Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
