We present an experimental study of the S-1 and S-3 phonon modes of Ag
(110) between 300 and similar to 700 K. The study was carried out alon
g the [001] direction by means of energy-resolved He atom scattering w
ith time-of-flight detection. The energy shifts of the modes were meas
ured over most of the surface Brillouin zone. A non-linear behavior of
the S-3 shifts above 600 K was observed for the first time. The surfa
ce anharmonicity constants were also evaluated.
