The MATQUID project is a prospective study of a cohort of 600 women sy
stematically evaluated on a psychiatric basis at the 8(th) month of pr
egnancy, then at the 3(rd) day 6(th) week, 3(rd) month, 6(th) month, 1
year, 28 months, and 2 years after delivery (a longer follow-up is in
view). The establishment of the quality of the mother-baby bond (atta
chment), as well as the child's development will be systematically eva
luated. We present here the first results for the first 500 women at t
he 8(th) month of pregnancy. They show a satisfactory state of mental
health for women whose pregnancy has been under medically surveillance
and has evolved normally, in a sample without major social or marital
problems. The epidemiological data concerning mood, anxiety, and psyc
hotic disorders, as well as the scores for depression (MADRS and CES-D
), anxiety (BATE) and SCL-90 scales are presented.
