Abstract
The results of waste air analytics of five paper machines producing di fferent paper grades are presented and discussed. The measured loads a nd concentrations of total organic carbon (orgC(total) and of the sing le components are crucially dependent on the process step concerned (w ire or press section, pre- or after-driers etc.). It is not possible t o completely identify the substances found as orgC(total). The majorit y of identified substances come within class IN (item 3.1.7 of TA-Luft (German Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control)). No substance s belonging to classes I/II according to item 2.3 of TA-Luft were dete cted in the investigations. Class III substances according to item 2.3 of TA-Luft were much lower than the limit value = 5 mg/Nm(3). All leg al limit values in terms of concentrations are adhered to. The substan ces contained in the waste air originate primarily from additives or; to a minor extent, are products of metabolism. Various substances dete cted in the exhaust air of recycling mills originate from recycled pul ps. When laking these findings and the associated recommendations rega rding the number of relevant parameters into account, it appears cost savings maybe achieved in case of officially prescribed measurements.
