Yz. Hui et al., UTERINE INVOLVEMENT BY INTRAABDOMINAL DESMOPLASTIC SMALL ROUND-CELL TUMOR IN A 63-YEAR-OLD FEMALE, International journal of gynecological cancer, 8(5), 1998, pp. 434-438
A 63-year-old female with the newly described neoplasm ''intra-abdomin
al desmoplastic small round cell tumor'' is presented. Clinically, the
patient presented with hematuria for a period of 15 days, and multipl
e, complex abdominopelvic tumor masses with uterine involvement were f
ound. Diagnosis was based on pathologic examination of tissue specimen
s obtained during exploratory laparotomy. In our patient, all the path
ologic criteria for intra-abdominal desmoplastic small round cell tumo
r were met, despite the patient's age. Similar to most patients with t
his tumor, our patient survived for only four months following surgery
. To our knowledge, this is the third case of intraabdominal desmoplas
tic small round cell tumor described in a postmenopausal female.
