The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of p
ovidone-iodine (Betadine solution) in the treatment of presumptive ade
noviral keratoconjunctivitis. Thirty-six patients who presented with c
lassic symptomatology were treated with Betadine (either 10% solution
hy swab or 5% solution as drops). Marked clinical improvement was obse
rved in 34 patients within 48 hours, without concomitant therapy Povid
one-iodine should he recommended as a standard treatment for adenoviru
s ocular infections.
