To determine whether punctal occlusion is useful in improving the dry-
eye condition of patients with familial dysautonomia, we performed a r
etrospective chart review of 18 patients who had undergone punctal occ
lusion. All reported improvement in their dry-eye symptoms after an av
erage follow-up of 3 years. We conclude that occlusion of 2 or 4 of th
e puncta is useful in treating dry eye and its sequelae in patients wi
th familial dysautonomia.
